Massachusetts has 1 welding program on file

That's not a gap in our data; IPEDS and College Scorecard simply show one accredited welding program headquartered in the state, in Oxford. A single-program state doesn't mean welding training is unavailable to Massachusetts residents. It means the nearest classroom seat may sit across a state line, and that a Massachusetts-based apprenticeship, run through a union or an employer rather than a college, is worth weighing alongside the one program in the table above.

The real directory here is shops, not schools

Massachusetts's welding-shop directory is a different story from its school directory. Boston, MA alone carries 17 listed shops. Across the state, 5 metros clear our minimum listing bar: Boston, MA, Cambridge/Somerville, MA, Lowell, MA, Springfield, MA, Worcester, MA. A welder who trains out of state can still come home to work. Browse those metro pages for own-site-verified shops and mobile rigs near you.

Boiler and pressure-vessel welding is licensed here

Massachusetts is one of three states, with Ohio and Wisconsin, that separately licenses boiler and pressure-vessel welding, on top of New York City's and Chicago's own city rules. There is no general Massachusetts welder license beyond that scope. ASME code qualifications come from the employer's own quality program rather than from ASME certifying an individual, which is why a shop's in-house qualification record matters more here than any single credential. How ASME qualification works covers the employer-side process in full.
