What this program covers

Southwestern Illinois College offers a Welding Technology program with an Associate in Applied Science degree and three stackable certificates (Basic Welding, Advanced Welding Skills, Advanced Welding Manufacturing). Coursework covers shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, flux cored arc, plasma arc, oxy-fuel, and gas tungsten arc welding along with print reading, layout/fit up, and welding inspection. Day students attend four or five days a week and night students two or three nights a week, with the lab open 5-6 days a week. The program is offered at four campuses (Belleville, Sam Wolf Granite City, East St. Louis, and Red Bud) and uses arc welding robots and CNC plasma cutting equipment.
