What this program covers
Elgin Community College offers an Associate of Applied Science in Welding Fabrication Technology (60 credit hours, four semesters) plus four basic vocational certificates (Welding, Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc, and Pipe Welding) completable in 4-16 months. The program covers oxy-acetylene welding/cutting/brazing, shielded metal arc (stick), gas metal arc (MIG), gas tungsten arc (TIG), flux core arc, submerged arc, plasma arc, and pipe welding, with morning, afternoon, and evening classes available. Training takes place in a "modern welding lab," and a new Manufacturing and Technology Center is set to launch Fall 2026. ECC partners with Kane County WIOA to offer free career training for eligible unemployed or underemployed individuals.
